Thank you for your interest in WATER FIRST, Amy Hart's documentary film about the essential role of clean water in virtually every global issue from poverty and hunger to environmental sustainability, child mortality to the care of patients with AIDS or malaria, girls education and women's empowerment to population control.

Globally, over 4,000 children die every day from water-related diseases. In addition to the loss of life, lack of clean water impacts people in many other ways. WATER FIRST takes the viewer through the 8 UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and makes it clear that if we are genuinely committed to helping people in developing nations, we need to put water first.

The film focuses on the inspiring story of Charles Banda, a local fireman turned waterman who founded Freshwater Project Malawi - a small, local NGO that has drilled over 800 wells in the poorest villages of Malawi. Charles Banda has made it his life's mission to do everything he can to provide clean water to the people of his country. But he doesn't just install pipes - he uses water as an entry point for community development that promotes a better quality of life for all. "Water is life. Water should be first," as Charles Banda concludes in the film.

The film was shot in Malawi, a small water-rich country in sub-Saharan Africa where the average income is less than $600 per year - that is to say, millions of people have nothing. While Malawi has many rivers and one of the largest lakes in Africa, approximately half of the 12 million people do not have access to clean, safe water. But Malawi is just a microcosm of a much bigger crises that leaves over 1.1 billion people without access to clean water.

We encourage you to get involved. You can write to your representatives or world leaders and urge them to allocate more funding towards clean water efforts. You can also host a fundraising house party or public event and help provide clean water to people who need it. Donations may also be made to support this project by clicking on the Donate Now bucket. Thank you for your support.
